Kermit R. Booker Elementary School

Located in the Historic West Side of Las Vegas, Booker Elementary School is a 62,300 square foot educational facility that houses 600 students and features four teaching pods based on a linear circulation hallway system. The building includes a student garden and exterior learning centers located in between each learning pod. This unique design allows teacher to utilize the exterior space to hold classroom sessions outdoors when the weather permits. This design reinforces the design intent to maximize the space of the building by utilizing the exterior as part of the same space. The complete design included administrative offices, sports facilities, classrooms, library, indoor and outdoor gathering spaces and playground areas. The construction budget for this project was over $25 million with a construction schedule of 340 days, both of which were met for the school to open on time for the semester to begin.
